Owners request European Commission Action at 2 Day Seminar in Madeira!

Spokespersons for Home and Landowners of a coastal village in Madeira, Portugal PAUL DO MAR raised at a European Commission 2 day Seminar in Funchal recently, Madeira the repossession of Private Coastal Properties all along the coast of Portugal in about 100 days! on July 1st under Portuguese MARITIME POLICY and LAW 54/2005.

Paul do Mar, first recorded in Portuguese State records as a community with private homes in the 17th century

The homes and land in Paul do Mar, a historic fishing village have been privately owned in many cases for centuries and the owners have modern ownership documents recognised by the State and have paid taxes, However, the Portuguese State will repossess any Private Homes/Land within 50 metres of the sea if the Private Home/Land owners cannot produce private ownership documents going back 150 YEARS!

To produce private ownership documents going back 150 years which are stored in Government archives is in most cases impossible and takes much time, money and effort. Legal fees to Portuguese lawyers and other professionals to discover and produce private ownership documents going back 150 years and start a lengthy legal action against the Portuguese State can run into thousands of euros with no guarantee of success!

Private home and land owners must “be sure that once a plot of land is bought and the ownership has been registered, then the time of ownership is unlimited and not subject to expropriation.”

Enshrined in International and European Laws is a Principle of Legal Certainty which state that an owner of a home or land in the European Union must

“be sure that once a plot of land is bought and the ownership has been registered, then the time of ownership is unlimited and not subject to expropriation.”
